Over the past five decades in Iraq, the number of enforced disappearances of people is estimated at nearly one million, and the crisis continues in different patterns, according to a report by the United Nations Committee concerned with enforced disappearances, which expressed grave concern about the continued spread of the practice of enforced disappearance in most parts of Iraq with impunity for the perpetrators, despite the fact that Iraq is at the forefront of states that have ratified the Convention.

Human rights organizations working in Iraq, including NIHR, are concerned with following up the patterns of enforced disappearances of persons, including children, and call on the relevant security authorities to cooperate with these organizations, to contribute to the investigation and defense of their rights and ensure their safety.
