Around the world, July 18 of each year is celebrated as the birthday of Nelson Mandela for standing for 67 years of his age in the service of humanity as a human rights lawyer, prisoner of conscience, international peacemaker, and interested in humanitarian issues in the fields of conflict resolution, ethnic relations, gender equality and children’s rights in addition to other vulnerable groups.
The United Nations has urged communities around the world to strengthen their capacity for positive change in their societies and make Mandela Day an example for all.
